Reflections

This is Precious and her first encounter with a mirror. I (Colleen) thought it would be fun to show the kids their reflections and it made for a very fun day! Some of them would look at themselves, then up at me, then point to the mirror questioningly. Others looked behind it to try and figure out where this other person was, while others just drooled on it and licked it. They had so much fun once they realized that they were looking at themselves. My mirror is terribly smudged and messy now!

The children here are beautiful and so excited to be learning. I am amazed at their attention span. I had one little 3 yr old boy sit in my lap for 40 min. reading the same 10 page book over and over. In the end I got so bored that we got up to do something else! Please pray for these children as they begin learning how to behave in a classroom setting, and pray that I can pick up swahili quickly so that I can teach them more effectively. The language barrier has made things much more difficult, but I am learning more and more everyday. Thanks for keeping up with us! We appreciate your support and prayers for us and for the kids!

I love it! My Sunday school kids--high schoolers--don't have that kind of attention span! Nor do I. ...

awesome! Don't worry about swahili, it's really easy after you get the basics down. You'll pick it up in a month, I'm sure. keep the updates coming!

I love reading your blogs. It sounds like you two are already a big impact on the area. David and I will continue to keep you in our prayers and especially Colleen so she doesn't get attacked by a larger animal next time!! The children are beautiful and we wish you the best with your new jobs. We will definitely be praying for you to pick up the language Colleen! Hopefully it isn't too hard :)

About us

We’re Cason & Colleen. We met at Taylor University in Indiana, and started dating while studying abroad in Ireland in 2004. We got married a few years ago and since then we’ve been enjoying journeying with the Lord together.

We started this blog in 2009 before we left to work in Kenya, but now that we’re back, we’re going to try to keep it updated with what is going on in our lives. We were in Kenya for almost a year and a half, and while we were there, Cason worked as the treasurer for a mission organization, and Colleen worked at an orphanage for 0-4 year old children. Cason also helped organize a local soccer team, and we both led a local church youth group.

We returned to the US in December 2010 and spent a few months based at Colleen’s parent’s home in Wooster, Ohio, while we figured out what was next for us. We were trying to seek the Lord during that time, but it was/is difficult to know what to do, especially with all that has happened in our lives the last few months in Kenya (see our blog archive).

The first few months in Wooster, Cason continued to work remotely as the treasurer for the mission, while Colleen helped care for the family puppies. (Cason ran the puppy blog, DoodlesbyRosie).

After taking some time to travel and visit friends and family, we ended up moving to Danville, Kentucky, south of Lexington, to be closer to Colleen's extended family and some good friends. Cason works in the finance department at the local hospital, and Colleen has been substitute teaching and volunteering at the humane society. We've gotten involved at a local church, and are loving the community there. We're also in the process of adopting domestically, and have revived the blog, in part, to document those proceedings.
